Is a 1973 Singer 242 any good?
A friend gave me a 1973 Singer 242 in a cabinet. This machine was made in Brazil. Is this machine any good? Can't find much information on the web about this. What is in worth? Will a 1952 Singer 15-91 fit in the cabinet?

Cindy,
What's it worth ..... well, take the top off and look at the gears and or mechanics. It should be all steel inside. Clean it up and service it, then sew with it. Then I'll bet you can answer your question by yourself.
I "think" the 15-91 will fit, but to be sure measure from center to center of the hinge pins on the cabinet, and the holes on the 15-91. If they are the same, it'll fit.
Besides, it was given to you, so no matter what someone else thinks it's worth, you're ahead of the game.

Those are ok until the plastic gear breaks or the belt on the bottom breaks, dries hard and won't turn properly. As far as value - the price was exactly right. There are machines that will fit their cases or tables just fine.
