The very oldest models do not begin wirh a letter - just have numbers, so don't be alarmed if what you see does not have a letter or 2 in front of the numbers in trying to date your machine.
If the numbers you mentioned are the serial number plate on base of machine front, then your Singer Sphynx was made in 1899.
Here is the page to identify the year - scroll to the bottom where the 8 digit serial numbers are listed, just before Singer began adding alphabet letters in front of the numbers.

she's beautiful!! TR3 Automotive finisher will shine and clean her without scratching. Be a little gentle on the decals. I could not believe the amount of brown yuk that came off of my Singer!
