Default Need info ref: Singer 201

Yep, need info about a Singer 201.

It's black
weights a metric ton
has the potted motor
according to the serial number (AK 542427) was allotted 6-26-51
it's got the centennial badge

Now, what series is it? 201-2 or????

Yep 201-2 (most likely....I don't know much about the other subs)

I have a Centennial 201-2. Nice, quiet machine. Great stitches. Large harp, easy to get quilt bulk thru. I got a deal on mine, paid $15 at a thrift store because it didn't have a power cord. Paid $10 for that on ebay.

Joe,

Here's the info for the 201s
201-1 - treadle
201-2 - potted motor machine
201-3 - solid hand wheel with external belt driven motor
201-4 - hand crank

More information on 201s can be found at Sew-Classic Blog.

My 201 is a 201-3 with the external motor. They seem to have been mainly a Canadian machine and few seem to show up in the USA. On the other hand, I rarely see the 201-2 machine with the potted motor in Canada although Singer made far more of them. My 201 is such a powerful smooth stitcher. It never hesitates with several layers of denim or veers off if encounters thicker fabric seam intersections.

Then 201-2 it is. Thanks for the clarification.

I already do. It's so much nicer than just about any of the other machines we have I'm amazed. Need to find room to set it up sew we can use it.
