would not paint it.....that said ...I saw one painted such a dark purple that it looked black except where the light hit it and it was really beautiful.

Oh! I wouldn't repaint that neat little lady. I love all shades of purple and would love to be able to afford one of those in purple or lilac ones that some are selling, but I would NEVER ever repaint either of mine.
I think changing the color of things from their original color for some, is like changing one's hair coloring. God gave me a particular color of hair with lots of grey added now and that is what He intended for me to have. When I discuss hair coloring I just add this line "I don't use any color on mine, what I have is God's natural highlights". My daughter is a licensed beautican, but I can't get into the color change.
Please think about not repainting your little jewel.

Planning to repaint her purple or pink for my granddaughter, then I plan to teach her to sew.

I have them in stock at my website www.thequiltgal.com as well as other items for Featherweights.

Make sure you paint it a color that will not clash with fabric you want to use in the future. There are certain colors that I like but clash with other colors.

I had to buy a cord and foot control for one of my FW's - I paid $50.00 but found them cheaper after I bought it My sewing machine shop keeps them stocked because it is so common to need them.

It's not so much the color pink as it is the idea of repainting a machine in decent condition just to change it's color. I'd say what I said about any color change. Just me I guess.

Now if the machine was really in bad cosmetic shape with rust and corrosion all over it, like my New Home Model AB, then by all means strip it and paint it. But not one like the little thing that started this thread. I'd clean it, lube it, and sew with it.

Ok, OK -- I give in!! Maybe I'll just polish her up and see how she looks then. I'll leave it to my granddaughter to 'decorate' as she sees fit. BTW, she's only 4 yrs. old right now. Since I'm looking for FW for all my g/kids, having them all be one color might be best. My oldest g/d, who is 6, will be the lucky one to get my 1964 greenish/white FW that I got as a Christmas gift from my parents when I was 11.

None of the g/kids will get their machines until they are old enough to use and take care of them, appreciate their intrinsic as well as sentimental value, not to mention their monetary value. I'll be keeping them until then.

Only have one more machine to buy, but no rush, my youngest g/d is only 1 yr old! lol

You should be able to get a cord and foot pedal from your local machine repair shop. My Bernina shop/repair had parts available. And I would paint her pink for my granddaughter, she would LOVE it!

This one I'd be hesitant to paint!!!!! Another model, sure, but not a FW. In fact, I have a model 66 that I am seriously considering painting pearl pink and putting tiny roses on her. Yours seems to be in pretty good condition. Sew-Classics will have everything you need to get her up to speed. In fact, I placed an order about 10 minutes ago for various things for 4 different machines--and they had them all!

Well, everyone, I got the machine today and I'm sssssssssssssssooooooooooo excited. I stole it. It's a 1952 and the only thing it needs is a good cleaning along with the cord and foot pedal. I'm going to scour around to get directions to clean the gears and get all the dirty oil and grease out and then put in new oil and grease, polish it up and see what everyone thinks. I'm almost finished refinishing the other FW I've been working on mentioned in another thread. Will share with pics soon.
