I finely found it
I have been looking for a 99k in a carrying case, and finely found it today at a yard sale for $25.00. HEeeeLP!! it needs lots and lots of cleaning, a light bulb , belt and the needle holder thingamabob ,and bobbins. I need, a good place for parts, the box needs work also, the bottom is coming apart, the motor sounds good and strong. the wring is in good shape also. DottieBug EL258913 99k, Great Britain

The machine's outside finish was toast. I followed Glenn's instructions to fix that.

The motor wires had been cut. I put a new spoked wheel on it and a hand crank. The bobbin area was fine. The bottom of the machine was fine. All I had to do was clean lint, dried oil and reoil to get the machine to work. After the DGKs go home I will take out the bobbin carrier and clean under there.
The shiny plates were filthy - some dawn and a rag and she got them nice and cleaned up.
The tension was filthy. Miss L is here so I let her pull it apart.

We laid the parts on a magnet to keep track of what way they go. Each piece was thoroughly cleaned. The little inside pin was somewhat rusted - Then we put it all back. The bobbin winder needed a bit of cleaning, too.

Of course the tension parts got all jumbled up on the magnet so the next best is to look in the TFSR manual:

You can look there for info on tensions.
Tammi has been working on some info on tensions. Watch for it in a few days. She's done a very nice video on the 201 tension. I sent her photos from this machine to add to her info. There are more than one tension type for the Singer 99. The 66 is just the basic older style with no numbers.

Thanks everyone for your help . I cleaned the 99k with some dish soap and a soft cloth ,and it cleaned up so nice that the decals are all there ,and are so bright . I don t think it was used very much. will the needle holder off a 101 singer work. I have a parts machine ,I cant get the light bulb out an sugestens, DottieBug

Is it the "spotlight" type fixture the 99s used? If it is, there's a snap ring at the lens end holding the 2 halves of the housing together. Or did you mean you can't physically get the bulb out of the socket?

Thanks Rodney ;the lens pushes in and I turned it and it came out it takes a screw in type bulb, a 10 watt . Will visit the local sewing machine guy. where can I find a needle bracket holder, thingee, I looked at sew classic.com didn't find it for the 99k , any where else to look . she is so pretty now that she is cleaned up I will try to get some pictures on here , so far I haven't been able to .
