LED is a nice solution for the lower fitted lights. I have a belt driven 201, and the light is fitted higher up on the back side. My 99 has exactly the same light as MFord's 128, both 3/4 size machines, I have used it a lot and it has never been a problem. My 201 has this large lumpy glass lens in front of the bulb, I can't remember if it get's particlary hot. My 99 has the more slender open lamp, they are a bit easier to rewire :- )

I confused myself - my question was actually about the lens-type lamp on my 99k! I am planning to make a quilt on it and the bulb is burned out. Sorry it ended up in the 128 thread! Sounds like I can get a threaded LED light for the 99k, though. Where is a good place to look? I checked Sew Classic and sewingpartsonline and didn't see a threaded LED on either of them, just the bayonet type.
No cleaning done as yet on the 128. I was overcome by exhaustion today, for no particular reason, and all I've done is nap and read!!

You might as well get the regular bulb, it seems to be the quickest solution. Remember not to insert anything above 15W (it will burn the the lamp). I know there are LED for the treaded socket, they are not always easy to find though. I did a search, and I can't really recommend a place to order from. It has to be an E14 socket, the bulb can vary a bit in length but has to be pretty close to 2 centimeter in diameter, less than an inch, 0.8 or something like that. I can find it for 240 Voltage, but not for US 110V when I search on ebay. This project needs a bit of patience and persistence It's a standard size, it should be worth asking in a local store with a good selection in light and bulbs too.

I think sew classic some times has the LED bulbs. IKEA has a real nice lamp for around $10 and you can move it from one machine to another. Or if you want to spot light the front or back of your machine you can just move the lamp around. Then if you have to rip out a mistake you can shine the light where you are working.
