Default help with dropped stitches - - -

I have a FW 221 and, for 6 months she ran beautifully. All of a sudden, she started dropping bobbin stitches. I re-threaded the top & bottom, changed needles and - - - still the same.

Please advise. I miss sewing on her!

Jane

Have you checked for burrs on the hook, bobbin case and needleplate? Lint or thread around bobbin? Cleaned and oiled it?

Do you have the right length needle in all the way? If the hook isn't getting the thread to make a stitch, it might be the timing is off.

As a recent victim of this, make sure the needle is in the right way. I don't have a featherweight so I can't remember which way the flat side goes but it's worth a shot.

Change the needle. A dull needle can cause this and if you have a habit of pulling the material through the feed or holding the fabric back from going through the feed, you may loose a stitch too.

let us know what worked.
peace

Edit, sorry you did change the needle, then check it is set properly.

If you have taken anything off the machine be sure to check in your manual to find out which direction things go back. Then double check.

I have this problem with my 221 when I'm sewing through thick parts of pieced quilted fabric. Basically when I start sewing the rows together and I get those bumps of 4 layers and up it can skip a bit. My guess if I got a sharp needle it would help solve the problem.

Same as a 201: right to left

The flat side goes to the left, I put mine in backwards one time and it did not make good stitches at all.
