Poor Pearl! She looked like someone had tied her all up and just tortured her, the poor thing. She looks a lot better now, for sure. How will you repair the crumbled metal on her base, if at all?

Pearl's a sweetie! I'm so glad you rescued her. You've done a good job cleaning her up!

When I bought my second FW from ebay, the seller said that the light worked but it didn't sew. I got her really cheap and tried the foot pedal from my other FW and she purred. Cleaned her up, serviced her and we are very happy.

I am doing some research if that can be repaired------she must have been in water or high moisture---because the bobbin case was rusted in----(WD40 to the rescue along with an old tooth brush and q-tips)----I think it was Billy that recommented liquid gold and wax for the finish and that has helped after cleaning . off all the old grease and gelled oil. The picture on e-bay showed the paint missing but not all the other problems. I felt so sorry for her when I took her out of the box----She just wants to be loved and used!

She is so pretty. It's fine to be a little worn in places, just ask my dh I am alittle worn in places too. Enjoy her!

I have an old Singer 301 that my mother had for years. Mom was a smoker and I have been wondering how to clean the machine to remove all the old cigarette yellowing from the smoke without dulling the paint finish. Any recommendations would be most appreciated. Thanks, Ann in TN
