Old style Aluminum sewing machines.
Singer made the 99K-10 in aluminum back in 1922-1924. I was wondering what other machines that were normally cast iron also had an aluminum stable mate.
Recently I have acquired a SEWMOR 505 that is a 3/4 size semi-copy of a model 15.

It's made from aluminum. Very nicely made and should sew beautifully.
I've also won a SEWMOR 303 that looks to be a 99 clone.

It pretty much has to be aluminum due it's advertised weight and the feather in the decals on the top of the arm and center of the bed.
I've read that some of the Singer 206s were aluminum and some where cast iron.
So what other iron / aluminum pairs can we come up with?

The Montgomery Wards Supreme Reversible Rotary (the one that looks like a locomotive) has a lightweight version. I've never seen the lightweight one (mine weighs as much as a locomotive!) but I'm guessing that it's probably aluminum.

Pat,
Someone on one of the forums I'm on, maybe this one, mentioned that after the war some of the White made machines were made from magnesium. I have several of these machines, but I have no idea what they are made from.
Here is another aluminum machine, my New Home made Greyhound Model 30:

At least I think it's aluminum.

Singer made the 201 and the 15-91 in aluminum in the very early 50's. They updated the design of the machine and changed the model numbers but they were the same machines internally as the older models. I'd love to get my hands on a green 15-125 aluminum. When the 201 was updated the model was changed to 201k

Joe,
Those White Rotaries that are made of magnesium have a MG at the end of the model number.

Joe,
I don't think that the Dressermaker models of the White Rotaries were made in magnesium. My magnesium is a model 77. It's possible that only the 77s were made in magnesium.
The model number on my magnesium White Rotary is under the bed lip on the front of the machine. The model number appears to be part of the serial number. I attached two pictures for you.

Cathy,
Thanks for the pics. We've been kind of wanting one of those dual control White machines to play with. Haven't gotten one yet.
The serial number on my White Dressmaster is 127-75859. So I guess that makes it a model 127. That partially matches what I was told. I was told it was a 127M. But I don't know enough about these White machines to know how to tell what makes the difference.

That little Greyhound was our first rescue of a sorts. It's small, (same size as a FW) light and sews really good. Only problem is it uses 20x1 needles and doesn't work well with the 15x1s seated short.
I use is occasionally. I do need to finish the case.
