Default PANIC - I've broken my beautiful 201 handcrank!!!

OK. I am not a stupid person, but lack mechanical skills. A lot. I had a thread jam on my 201 that I couldn't remove with tweezers. So I got out the manual and it said to push the spring on the bobbin assembly (looked more like a tab to me). Did that, top ring came off and I was able to get all the thread out. But now I can't get the ring back on the bobbin assembly correctly. Every time I think I have it, it comes loose again after only a few stitches. I am trying to be very careful with the spring/tab thingy because I don't want to break it off. Any suggestions, anyone? I really don't want to take it into a repair shop and confess my sins....

Any help appreciated. I love my 201 handcrank!

Hey now....you did not break it!

You just committed the cardinal sin of "NOT photographing it at each step of the take apart when doing something for the first time" for shame.... tisk tisk... (LOL)

seriously though, I don't know enough about the newer models to assist, but I am sure others will chime in with all of the help you need. breath in, breath out, it'll be fine.

Thanks, Steve, for the encouragement. I will never forget to photograph each step in the future! In the meantime, could you send chocolate? That way I could "breathe in, breathe out, take a bite of chocolate.... "

My husband said you have to give it a turn. Said it took a lot of finger strength and was a real pain to get back in.

Follow Rain's excellent directions on cleaning a Singer 201 bobbin area, and you will be good to go. Directions are easy to follow and very well done.

You are braver than me. I want another 201 before I risk anything with Belle, she sews for me everyday. However, with Rain's instructions...............
