Yeah. That is also exactly what I do after reading about someone else's one that got away.

. . .oh hey, there is one of my ones that got away. With a price for the giggles thread. Is it a bad thing to name a machine you do not even own. . .

Dang! I just checked - the cabinet WILL fit my 301. I am less than enamored with my 301 card table. There just isn't enough table to the left of the machine to support a quilt as it gets bigger. The card table could become my cutting table...

It would have come home with me. I missed a Rocketeer in a cabinet for $85. Gal in charge of an estate sale business called me to let me know of it. Headed over there but her DH/partner had already sold it. It was in a nice blonde cabinet. A friend of mine bought it. Saw her load it into her van. I was looking around to see if there was anything else and I spied the manual. They wanted to charge me for it. Told them it belonged to the machine. Everything was intact with that machine. The lady it belonged to had passed only 4 months ago while using the machine. My friend named it after her. Coincidentally, the owner's name was Roxanne. Beautifully well maintained!!

Talk about passing up on a good deal... I have one of those stories.

I went to a garage sale of an older couple and I noticed that they had a Singer sewing machine in one those old wooden portable round boxes they used to come with. The box itself was in great condition. I asked them if I could see the sewing machine inside. This couple, they had to be in their late 80's or early 90's, looked a little embarassed and said that they couldn't open it because they lost the key. They also explained they had another Singer in the same type of box that also didn't have a key. This machine they said was an old crank sewing machine. They said that they could sell them to me for $25 each. Unfortunately, I didn't think to ask them if they could hold them for me, as I was already late for a doctor's appointment. Being in a hurry, my mind doesn't always work on all cylinders, and I couldn't think of how I could open the boxes without deystorying the cabinets. It was all too much for me to put together, as I was really, really late now for the appointment. After the appointment I went back and of course they were gone. Come to find out years later from a locksmith, that even though you didn't have a key, all you needed was a screwdriver to turn the square lock open. Found this out after I locked an old Singer pedal machine and couldn't open the drawers. He said that all of the old locks for the Singer were like that.

strong resolve here today also, though at $100.00 it wasn't too difficult...
Church rummage sale, olive Nicchi in cabinet clean as could be.
I keep saying I'm not a collector, but somewhere in the back of my mind a little Italian racehorse calls my name.

I have no doubt I could have offered anything and got it, but instead I explained how the bobbin cases can be more valuable than a machine and suggested they tape it in.

but it was soooo nice...but I'm not a collector...but...
