Default Pretty Face

Well I picked up a machine the other day and yesterday Mom and I cleaned it up.
Here is the before cleaning pic

It cleaned up better than I expected.

Good color.
Nice features.
Cleaned up nearly perfectly.
Nice dashboard.
Pretty.
Price was right, too.

BUT

It has a ss throat plate. No big deal I robbed one off a parts machine.
After we cleaned it up I oiled it and got some thing to move.
Usually when I see a machine that looks that good my suspicions are aroused.
Rightly so.
The width lever and knob move.
Left right center needle position works.
The button hole lever moves.
The feed dog buttons move - mom had a ball with that.
But the reverse doesn't move.
That is kind of normal for the old machines. Tri-flow and time out should take care of it.
The stitch selector knob doesn't budge.
It may be that I need more information about the lever next to it.
The lever moves fine.
But I haven't had one with feed dogs that are stuck on zero.
The stitch length knob moves.
Oil and time out. More oil and time out?

The internals of that machine are very complicated pic didn't load. I'll try again later?

The parts toward t he top by the dial to the stitch selector move when the lever next to it moves. The dial does not budge. It has a plastic cam stack and so far it looks ok - well with a flashlight and nothing turning...

Miriam,

That's a really interesting machine. Elaine says she'd love to play with it. If it's anything like my Aldens ZZ it's really complicated internally. So just keep floating it with Tri-Flow and it will eventually free up.

Joe, I wonder if the stitch selector knob needs the lever released to turn. I am thinking one I had did need a combo to work. Yes it is complicated under the hood.

Miriam,

On my Aldens there is nothing preventing the selector knob from turning. There is a lever on the back, similar to the one on the front of your machine that controls the back and forth of some of the stitches.
