A $10 Singer fiddleback

1 Attachment(s)
I was browsing a local antique mall yesterday and saw this old Singer fiddleback head with a $10 price tag on it. It looks well used and is missing the shuttle and shuttle plates, but appears to be otherwise complete. I'm not sure of the model, but the serial # is 9098103. It appears to date to 1888. I didn't buy it, but for $10 it was hard to pass up. I imagine it would be tough to find the missing parts. Any thoughts?

Not hard to find the parts, really. You can get them online several places. Overall it doesn't look too bad to restore, but you would have to find a treadle base for it. I know, it is hard to leave them sitting, isnt it??

Nice price and doesn't look too bad. I have seen much worse. I don't think I could of walked away.

I wouldn't have walked away from that deal. All that for $10.00 It's beautiful.

Wow, I love the curvy base. Where in Virginia? (she asked from just across the Potomac...)

Beautiful find!!!! I got a couple of 301's this past summer in an auction and they both work great. I had the serviced and they are wonderful!!!

I'd have taken her home. I've really wanted a fiddle back but they are so expensive.

I've been wanting a fiddle base too, but I'd have let that one sit...the shuttle and plates are easy enough to find, but the treadle base would be a bear to find...when I get one, it will be base and all...

At $10, it was hard to walk away from, but I have too many other machines as it is. If anyone is interested, its at an antique mall in King George county Virginia, on RT. 301, about 10 miles from the Potomac river. Here is the shop's website:

If someone is really interested, I can stop by again and get the specific booth # that its in.
