1957 99k How much should I pay?

So I stumbled across a 1957 99k in a thrift shop today on my way to work. It seems very clean, has the paperclip decal on its' base and comes with its manual and attachments. The head is very plain but doesn't look too scratched...just tired. The wooden base looks okay but the weird faux woven type thingy case top is pretty grimey and ick to look at. The motor has a "safe to use" inspection sticker on it and the wheel and needle arm seem to move quite freely but I have no idea if it actually still works. The chrome stuff is all nice and shiney and it looks like someone has just found it in their Mum's back room and decided to piff it. Now the thrift shop wants $145.00 AUS for it: no bargaining considered...what da ya reckon?:confused: I'd like to rescue it...am sure Gertie the treadle would look favourably on the little guy but I don't want to be a nong about it. All advice gratefully ruminated over.

Since my cousin gave me my 1953 99k for free, I think that is WAY too much to pay. It all depends on your market, but 99k's are pretty common in the US. I will be interested to hear what others say.

I paid $60 for mine in a cabinet and perfect condition.

99K's are super common here in the U.S. I have no idea how common or uncommon they are in Australia and would not comment on price because of that.

I paid $50.00 US for mine - I think $145.00 is way too much. JMHO

I paid about 50.00 for mine and it is really in good condition.

I have no idea about Australia ... but here in the states I have noticed on E-bay that the prices on good 99's are going up and up. Seems like every time I see one I like it sells for well over $150. I *personally* am not willing to pay that much so I'm biding my time and waiting for a good one at a good price.

The most important question though is what is it worth to YOU?? There are machines that I've paid more than other people would be willing to pay, but I wanted them ... a lot :)

I paid $30 for mine but it wasn't a treadle. What it is worth to you and how much do you have to spend? It doesn't matter to anyone else but you. If it strains your budget, don't buy it. Happy decisions!:)

I got mine at a thrift store for 20$. It is in good shape, but the base is iky looking too. but it sews really good.

I paid $45 Canadian for my 1957 99K and it sounds like the one you saw was in similar condition. I do love mine though. It is so darn cute and sews beautifully. I say if you want it go get it.
