1973 Singer?

We saw a singer with possibly Sphinx decals called a model 25 with a date of 1973 on eBay. Can that date be correct?

Maybe 1937?

I wonder if it's one of those Chinese repros? Right decals, wrong colors, wrong dates.

Where did you see it?

I don't know... doesn't sound right. There are plenty of experts here that will tell you for sure but I'm pretty positive that they weren't making those beautiful decals in 1973.

Here's the link to the 1973 Singer http://www.ebay.com/itm/1973-Vintage...d=344606003151

The decals look almost too vivid...

See the plastic knob on the bed of the machine for dropping the feed dogs? Original 27's never had that knob. In fact - no singer that I'm familiar with uses a twist knob to drop the dogs. Reproduction all the way.

Another hint: Across the arm of the machine it says 'Singer Sewing Machine Company' real Singers say 'Singer Manufacturing Co.'

Pretty sure it's a reproduction. there's a plastic knob where the serial number plate should be on the front. Abd the chrome parts look too shiny.

I saw a reproduction Sphinx wth a crack in the bed of it. It was some kind of tribute to the Sphinx. I passed. It had a rotary bobbin, not a long bobbin. It may still be on.

The Singer 25 is a repro. Even if the other things mentioned weren't noticed, the serial number starting with "NL" is a dead give-away.
