1980-1984 Singer feed dogs

1 Attachment(s)
Have been working on Singer and at first foot was stuck up and would not come down. Last problem is feed dogs go up and down but DO NOT move forward and back ward. Any ideas on what to do? Have oiled it well with tri-flow oil and hate to give up as it is a machine with cams, never had one before.Hoping there is an easy fix as my hands don't have what it takes to take it all apart. Arthur is making his presiense known and hands seem to be taking brund right now..
Thanks

What is the stitch length set at? if it is at zero your feed dogs will move up and down but not forward and backward. If that is not the problem look to see if the dogs have been dropped. There may be a knob under the bed to bring them back up.

Can't say I'm familiar with this model though it sounds as if most probable cause is gumminess in the feed mechanism. Old oil and sprays act as a cement in the works and cause parts to not function properly due to sticking. Pretty tough stuff to dissolve away and it often takes persistence and getting dirty. Best to think like Sherlock, examine and ask yourself "Why arn't the feeddogs moving forward?" You might find a stuck or broken part or the feed might be set to zero or dropped. Good Luck.
