66 Redeye Question

Found a singer 66 in a parlor cabinet. It appears very clean top & bottom. The decals are in great shape and it's a treadle. Guy is asking $125 but told me to make him an offer because he really needs to get rid of it. What would be reasonable? Can it be converted to electric? Haven't figured out how to post pics, sorry!

Convert it to electric!? ..... EWWWW Yukapooie :(

Yes, it can be converted to electric if you must. They are incredibly simple to do. Sew-Classic makes complete aftermarket kits to do it with ~or~ you might find an original Singer motor - light - controller set up that would bolt right on.

If the cabinet and machine were in reallly reallllllllly great shape, had the attachments and owners manual, I could be convinced to pay his price. But I'd offer him $75.00 to start.

Lol, Joe! No attachments or manual. I was thinking $80 but $75 sounds better! Stupid question, but is it easy to sew on a treadle? Never done it before so I'm sure there's a learning curve! Going to try it out this weekend I hope... May email you the link if that's ok.

The only problem I have when I use the treadles is sewing short pieces. The starting and stopping can be a chore sometimes. But you get the hang of it. I've finally gotten the point that I can usually start and stop both of my 66 treadles without having to turn the hand wheel. I just give it a glance to make sure it's going the right direction then get with it. When I sew long lengths like when I was quilting my machine covers I just get to going and sew just like an electric.

If you want to email me the link feel free to do so.
