advice on new 130

just got a Pfaff 130 today. No manual, no instruction, no guidance. I will go off and hunt up a manual- but I can already tell it will be a monster.
any advice from someone who already has one? the bobbins look like 66s more than 15s- are they Pfaff specific?

You can get a manual at http://s2.vsmgroup.com/VSM/Pfaff/pfaffmanual.nsf
You have to click on Pfaff 130, then english, and it will come up as a download.

Yes, the bobbins are Pfaff-specific-15's are too tall, 66's are too wide.

Two cautions-mine did not like to sew thick puffy things. Thick/heavy, yes; layers of thin, yes; puffy, no. Also, of you move the needle off of center (it goes both left and right) check and make sure it's completely back on straight stitch after you've recentered it. They're a little 'sticky' for lack of a better word, and moving the needle back often left mine in the narrowest zigzag.

Have fun with it-mine was a beast.

thanks- I will watch for the needle and skip puffy things...

I have a Pfaff 130 -- it is my main machine -- I really like how fast I can sew with it. Mine came with very few bobbins, and I ordered some new ones. They are shiny and do not work for me -- the thread will barely pull out of the needle hole once it is brought up, so you know what the bottom tension looks like. I have been able to get some original bobbins at garage sales, and they work fine.

I used a generic short shank walking foot for a few years until the plastic shank area broke on it. I have a new generic walking foot, and it is not doing good on the Pfaff, but it works ok on my FW. I need to try to find another walking foot to try.

Enjoy your vintage Pfaff!
