Anyone on here own a Singer 31-15 industrial machine?
 

I am trying to help an elderly lady get her Singer 31-15 machine going and she thought it might need a new belt. It's an odd machine....sort of like a treadle but also electrified. I would love to have a picture of how the belt looks when it's on correctly.

I've already found, by searching pictures on the internet, that I was trying to put the belt 'in front' of the bobbin pulley rather than in back of it. When I turned the machine on the belt was smoking :shock: :shock: :shock: where it passed around the bottom pulley. I don't know if it was because the belt was too loose, too tight or just because I had incorrectly brought it up in front of the bobbin pulley (not sure if that is the right name for it).

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

Depending on where the bobbin winder is screwed into the table, it is supposed to be in front of the belt. To engage the bobbin winder push it backwards until it pushes on the belt (it will click into place). It should pop back/ disengage when its full.

Thanks. The bobbin winder is on the cabinet in the front right corner. I'm hoping that putting the belt in the right place will help. It was so weird to see the belt smoking....:shock: ....white smoke just billowing up from under the machine. Of course, those machines have an awesome amount of power and speed. I'm also wondering if having the belt too tight would make it smoke. When it was looser it wasn't turning the wheel.

This is my first "tune-up/repair" that I'm doing for someone else. I put an ad in the paper and this elderly woman called because she had been searching for over a year to have someone come out and repair her machine. Leave it to me to have my first repair be a machine that I've never seen before and can't find much info about it on the internet...;)
