It arrived in pieces .......

I am sitting here looking at the sewing machine I ordered on ebay . Nomally never a problem ~ that's how I bought my featherweight. However , this seller sent it without any padding and said he thought the case would be strong enough.
It arrived 15 minutes ago ~ in pieces. The case is all broken out at the seams, the machine is also in pieces. I knew I was in trouble when I picked it up off the porch after the mail lady delivered it , and it rattled and jingled and knocked about inside the box. And, nothing to indicate which side was up , wait, there was a return address , still it had been set on its side in the box , then taped.

So, he would like me to send it back to him , it belonged to his mother. He feels terrible and I am heartbroken !

I would like to get more information about it ~ and am not finding much on the internet. So I need your help !!
It looks like a singer, black , small-ish , says 'Sew Rite Inc.' with 'Sewing Machines' under it on the top front.

A label on the right front ' 1951 Delux' and under the front are H76193 embossed in the metal. Tension knob is left side.

Any information would be helpful . I am considering keeping it , maybe having it fixed .......... I can maybe save it. Though it looks like someone played basketball with it ~ or Ace Ventura when he impersonated a delivery man.

Thanks for listening.

It's a Japanese Clone. Perhaps if you post some photos of the damage we can be of more assistance. I have one of these Delux clones and she's a fun little machine.

That is just aweful ...but I really would send it back.

pull her out, thread her, and see how she does. All that shows in the photos is the chrome bobbin cover, which should slide back into place. She may be fine, or she may be all bent out of shape.

bemoreonline,

Well is the machine beyond damage control would be one of my first questions? How badly is it damaged.
Take lots and lots and lots of pictures. Send copies to the carrier with a major complaint.
File an insurance claim if it was insured . Especially if you have to pay to ship it back.
We know about these types of damages.
Been there, done that too much this last year.
For now we have been fortunate to have a very conscientious and caring UPS delivery lady on our route.
And oh we do know about the basket ball playing in these shipping rooms.
Done that too. Had a boss that would toss a box 100 plus feet and land it right side up right behind the driver just to get their attention.
With that said, how much work are you willing to put into it to save it? How bad did you want it in the first place.
I guess that is up to you to weigh and measure.

Elaine

We just went back and looked at your pics. There is damage there that does not look like it can be repaired.
The opinion here now is send it back. File a complaint with eBay and PayPal. That machine was not properly packed in the first place from what we can see in your pictures. The bobbin winder is bent.
Make sure to get your money back plus what it costs you to ship it back.
Joe says that the seller was an idiot for not packing it properly.

I would sent it back and get a machine thats not a project. No guarentees this will ever work properly again.

How much do they weight ? Is it comparable to a featherweight without the flip down table ? Is yours in a case ?

J Miller 11-13-2012 04:38 PM

These types that are in your picture look like the ones that weigh about 35 to 40 pounds on average. That is about twice what a Featherweight weighs.
