Bobbin Tire Size for 28?

My new girl is missing the bobbin tire. It's bigger than the one that fits the 201, 15-91, 401a, etc. Does anyone know the size, or part number? Since its a shuttle bobbin I can't just wind it on my outside bobbin winder. I love the great pool of knowledge on this board!

My Singer 127 is a shuttle machine and will take the same standard sized bobbin winding tire as most of the other Singers. There seems to be many different sizes though. But since the winder is moveable you have a lot of leeway. Also since the rubber tires stretch, you have leeway there too.

Here's the Sew-Classic page for the bobbin winding tires { http://www.shop.sew-classic.com/Bobb...-Tires_c16.htm }.
Jenny has included dimentions so you can find one that's closest to what you need. The one that fits the most Singers is the first one listed. I just got 10 of them in for a bunch of machines and stock.

Hello Lyncat,

You need to get the biggest tyre you can find and stretch it a bit before you put it on. They don't make them big enough any more.

Hi, Lyncat - - I know this is a very old post, but I have the same issue you did with trying to locate a large enough bobbin winder tire for a newly acquired 28K. Were you able to find one, or get another one to work? I was thinking of the hardware store (ACE?) to see if they had a comparably-sized one, but the nearest ACE store is 60 miles away. Thanks in advance, Jonee

According to the 28 parts list, the number for the bobbin winder tire is 15287. I printed the page that had it and measured it. It is 1" OD and 9/16" ID, which would be close to the same as https://www.sewingpartsonline.com/bo...d-15287-a.aspx Most bobbin winder tires are a little fiddly to get on.

a little bit of liquid soap applie dto the inner area may ake it easier to slip on. Pf course, it makes it harder to hold, too.

The tire can also be soaked in hit water for a short time to make it relax. Dry off quickly before installing.
