Bobbins for 66
 

My 1949 Singer 66 only came with one bobbin, which was in the bobbin case.
It is slightly domed with just one thread hole on either side. I checked my featherweight and it's bobbins are very flat, circled by holes.

The ones I see on Ebay, listed for the 66 appear to be the flat ones.
Are they interchangable?

No, your Singer 66 only takes Class 66 bobbins. They are domed like the one in your machine. The one with only one hole is an old original bobbin. The new(er) ones have holes around both sides.

You can buy these bobbins most anywhere, they come in both metal and plastic versions. But those sold by JoAnns and Walmart and others very greatly in quality.

All 66 bobbins are not created equal. I think I bought 10 to get 6 that worked. Joe's suggestion is a good one. I probably could have gotten exactly what worked and paid less from sewclassic.

I agree with Joe. I just bought some, and even though they are metal, they don't always fit. I am tempted to use a file to make them a little smaller to fit. I also bought the plastic ones, and they are garbage. Yes, I plan on buying from sew classic.

Those bobbins you buy at WM come apart - make cute earrings though. I've not had any failures from sew-classic

Are singer sewing machine needles the same size across all the machines or is their a particular something I should be looking for? I only have one of those too...

Interesting! I thought it was only me!! I had about 15 bobbins that looked exactly alike and only 4 of them will go into my 66 correctly!! I thought I was going nuts! I guess I'll buy from Sew Classic in the future! I hate only having 4 bobbins!!

I have scads of Class 66 bobbins. From the original lathe turned ones to modern plastic ones and most everything between.
I try to segregate the old originals for my treadles and older machines. But so far I've seen no problems with switching them around as long as the bobbin is of good quality.

When I bought my Singer 201 hand crank it came with 1 bobbin. I quickly found out that new class 66 bobbins are garbage for the most part, the inside hole was too small to fit my bobbin winder, some weren't exactly round. What a waste of money they were. :shock:
I am so happy that I don't need to find new class 66 bobbins. I bought a lot of 35 original metal bobbins on Ebay a few years ago. I have 4 machines that use this type of bobbin.
