Cromwell Portable Machine

I saw a really cute Cromwell Portable Machine today. It is a brown crinkle finish, small, at least 3/4 size if not less, shuttle bobbin. The shuttle was there with a bobbin, and the machine did not show much wear at all. Nor did the case, although I could not see the lid to the case, it might be missing. Foot control, light, and cord were there and seemed in good shape.

I am holding myself to the chair to not go back and buy it. I wanted to see if I could learn anything about it first and it if would stay in my mind. Well the mind part is definitely there! I think I can get it for $15 and he is just too cute!

Thanks for any info, I am going overboard on these vintage machines. I guess making up for not keeping some others I had several years ago. I shoulda' known that one day I would want them!

Well I did go back and get him. I found the case so that came home with me too. Everything moves freely, but he is definitely grimy and needs a good cleaning and oiling. The motor runs and the machine feeds but I do have to figure out how to thread him before I see an actual stitch! I am still very green with vintage machines so a little study is necessary. And the cords are pretty worn at the machine connector end, repair is necessary there before I do any more playing since I can make him run just by wiggling the controller cord! The motor is a Hamilton Beach, but it is too dirty to read much else. I am thinking it will be fun to get him back in running condition. I really don't think he was used much, there is no wear on the stitch plate at all. It seems pretty obvious that the wear to both cords is due wrapping them around the machine and bending them at the connectors.
