DGS sewing with my FW

3 Attachment(s)
Just returned from a visit with two of my grandchildren. Here is Taylor, age 7, sewing un assisted on my 1947 FW. He designed 3 crosses he wanted to applique on the front of his T-shirt. He knows completely how to raise and lower the presser foot, put the needle in the down position and pivot on corners. In one photo he attempting to thread the needle. He almost had it before he asked for help. But, he had the right idea. Each time DH and I come for a visit I bring one of my machines for Taylor and his 5 year old sister, Ruby, to sew with. They love it AND so does Grandma!

I love to see children sewing! The Featherweight is a perfect machine for little ones to learn on. Thanks for sharing.

Sure is, and he may grow up to be a designer if he falls in love with fabrics and what can be made with them. Good for yu grandmother for showing him what it is all about.

What a wonderful thing letting them use your machine. I haven't had the courage to do that yet - but I think I will.

Yup... a young man that can sew! Last time he was over to our home I showed him the Singer 401 that will be his when he knows how to sew by himself. (his mother doesn't sew) He is very excited to have his own machine at his own home. We are aiming at age 10 so he has incentive to learn. My guess he will be ready.
