Does anyone have a Kenmore 158.1040 Parts Machine?

I came across this machine, in great condition but the bobbin winder in it is toast. It's broken in two. The replacement part is no longer made and no longer for sale. I need someone who has a poor condition or parts machine. I'm interested in getting this machine 100% operational.

It looks like this. And there are several models in the series so I hope someone has one with a bobbin winding mechanism they'll part with.

Candace,

Those bobbin winders are made of pot-metal. They are a weak link of that 1040 series. About once a year I do a parts search for that BW in the on-line catalog for my wholesale house. I've never been successful. I have several 1040 and 1030 parts machines and all with bad bobbin winders. I really wish I could help.

Ack, and the issue is my fault! It was stuck solid and after long soaks with Liquid Wrench, hair dryer treatments and Triflow I decided to lightly tap it. And then it broke:<

My other machine doesn't have a problem with its winder, but this one is in such good shape I'll have to keep looking! Let me know if you ever stumble across a hoard of them:> I think the broken parts can be epoxied together, but that doesn't solve the problem of the winder not rotating. It may well be slightly bent or something.

I sent you a PM.

Show me a pic of what you are needing - maybe...

I'll try to get a pic of the busted one today. Thanks, Miriam.

Here's a few pics of the bobbin winder I need. Darn it!

I'll see what I have when I get over there. I'm up to my eyeballs - we just had a bunch of snow. This is spring???? I have one pretty rusty machine - I'll see if anything can come off it. I don't know what it has for the bobbin winder. I'll have to find it, shoot a pic and compare to what you just sent.

Thanks for looking, Miriam. No snow for us here but we have possible rain this week!

At least you don't have to shovel rain. This is suppose to be spring. I'm suppose to put in a garden.
I do have to say Wilbur and I were throwing sticks in a pile the other day - His momma raises goats so he is a good hearty 3 year old. He is learning how to throw sticks over the fence. He was doing a pretty good job until he picked one up and said, "This one has HORNS, Grandma." I think he got a hold of a locust stick or something.
