Featherweight Cone Holder

5 Attachment(s)
DD was here yesterday so she was using my Elna. I needed to sew some binding on another quilt and had my Featherweight set up. OOOPS, didn't have any black thread on spools, just cones. OOOPS, DD has my cone holder at her house. So I came up with this rather inelegant solution to my problem. Supplies needed: 1 empty tin can, two large paper clips and two straws. Oh yes, a spool rack in a convenient location. I threaded some string on the "guides" so you can see how it work. And it does perfectly.

great idea!

Way inventive!

Love it! What a wonderful idea that anyone can make. I have trouble feeding my thread off of spools on some of my vintage machines. I think this is the perfect answer. Thanks so much for sharing.

Yep, but my "widget" is not as elegant as yours. Invention is the mother if necessity. I deliberately changed the phrase.

How clever you are! I have a "store bought " cone holder but I think yours is just as workable and shows brainpower. You go girl!

Congratulations on your very own "Rube Goldberg". How very inventive of you. Who'd a thought.?

you are a very creative person...

I have a similar contraption that involves a coathanger. Yours is way more elegant than mine.

Very ingenuous! Thanks for sharing. When will you be going into production? LOL

Not likely. I can see no profit to be made.LOL I am sure that someone can improve on the design.

I just use one of the doll stands I had for my dolls. Works for me. LOL

Ioftheneedle 08-07-2012 04:34 PM

Now that is clever. I do use a cup sometimes for my thread when I use my embroidery machine.

nhnative 08-08-2012 01:35 PM

That's a great idea. I had put the cone in a jar but just draped it around the thingy to hold the spool of thread. I'm going to do this.

What an invention. Way to go. I use the large cones as well just because. Price is better than a lot of little ones.
Like nhnative's idea too, using a jar.
I have a cone holder to use and also had dh make my banana holder into a nice holder. He added a dowel to the middle on the base and I feed the thread up thru the link and over to my machine. Looks cute and cheap.
Thanks for sharing your idea.
