featherweight grease and oiling
 

I recently purchased a featherweight that is in very good condition. The machine had not been used for a very long time. I don't think it needs fixed but it probably need some TLC before using it. There is some grease in the case, no oil as the oil leaked all over the manual. I have read somewhere though that the grease should NOT be used on them (even though it is recommended in the manual). I would like to oil and whatever else Maintenance is necessary before using.
Can someone tell me what needs done other that oil. Do I use the grease? Anything else?

When I find and buy a "new" FW. I clean it as good as possible......then oil and grease as on the maintenance guide.....in the grease ports as indicated BUT I use only Singer lubricant (grease)....and a good quality oil....

According to Singer and stated in the owners manual, you use the oil for the oil places, and the Singer lube (grease) for the bearings and the motor. ONLY use the Singer lube for the motor, no oil or other grease.

However many of use have found that Tri-Flow oil and grease works much better than the Singer oil and grease for the bearings and gears. We use it to the exclusion of the Singer or other oils and greases.
We do however use the Singer Lube (grease) in the tube for Singer motors.

Yes, as long as you can squeeze it from the tube it will be good. I've got quite a few old tubes that came with machines too and it's all been good.

there is a gentlemen on youtube that shows you exactly where to oil and grease. I don't remember his name but serge for 221 maint. and see if yo find him. I found him by accident!
