Anyone received their FW shipping in the case and NO box or packinging? It did have more tape on it, DH started to remove it when we thought about taking pictures

greenini 04-15-2011 02:24 PM

My word, how was it inside, everything OK???

darlenewitt2004 04-15-2011 02:26 PM

Oh my gosh! I can't believe they would ship it like that, not even in a box. But, I bought one on Ebay, and the guy did put it in a box, but, with no packing, and it arrived in shambles. I couldn't even use the machine, parts were missing due to holes in the box, so you are really lucky!

She is beautiful!! does need a new foot peddle with cords.

Hope I didn't post to many pictures of "Lizzy".

She has a perfect stitch, fabic is puckering just a tiny little bit. Haven't used her yet to piece anything.

Tink's Mom 04-15-2011 02:29 PM

I'm surprised that they let it ship that way...glad it arrived in 1 piece.

Maia B 04-15-2011 02:32 PM

For crying out loud! What was the seller thinking?! There's a saying..."doesn't have the good sense that God gave lettuce". I think it applies here. We all know cardboard is very hard to come by...

quiltsRfun 04-15-2011 02:34 PM

Looks like it's in pretty good shape considering how it was shipped. How does the machine look? Hopefully she had a good trip as well and you'll have many happy hours together.

MTS 04-15-2011 03:04 PM

From eBay?

I'd ding his stars for that when you leave feedback.

Stupid seller. Took a lot of risk.

If he got the wrong kind of buyer, he would have lost the whole $$$ sale AND the machine. I would have made him sweat for a few days.

Didn't/doesn't he realize the case is part of the whole package? So if it's dinged or now has non-removable labels on it.......

Also, for any sale over $250, DelConf ain't enough. It HAS to be signature confirmation.

Idiot.

Aside from that, she's lovely. I wish you decades of happiness. ;-)

brushandthimble 04-15-2011 03:11 PM

anyone know where I can order a new foot pedal with cords?

Add said it had one small area with tape, WRONG
3 places. plus worn cord and 2 of the 3 areas are 1; coming out of the foot pedal and 2; wires showing coming out of the plug. Easy fix, get a replacement.

Importantly she seems to work perfect, and looks great!:) I am in love.

Jingle 04-15-2011 03:12 PM

Very beautiful machine, I am glad it wasn't damaged. Lucky you.

colleen53 04-15-2011 03:13 PM

wow I have never seen such a thing.. that little jewel of joy IS part of the purchased package.. I would let him know for sure... i now have two and they stitch like a dream.. I will be posting a pic soon of my husbands quilt that HE is sewing ,,yes sewing on one of my featherweights...

emerald46 04-15-2011 03:17 PM

You have got to be kidding me! Mine came in a box about the size of small stove..full of peanuts with another box containing FW buried inside. Geez...glad sweet thing is okay!! Give that ebay sellers fits!! Write them up real good!

OHSue 04-15-2011 03:21 PM

She's a beauty!

hobbykat1955 04-15-2011 03:24 PM

Your right what was he thinking...Someone just linked me to a site that sells parts for featherweights...www.april1930s.com

cowgirlquilter 04-15-2011 03:45 PM

Wow, that is amazing. Nothing like that, but I received a bundle of fabric from someone wrapped in a garbage covered with tape....that was a first as well.

nls 04-15-2011 03:58 PM

You are very lucky!!

roseOfsharon 04-15-2011 04:01 PM

Holy Cow! That is almost laughable! Just seeing it taped up like that is ridiculous! Someone could of stolen it seeing it was a FW. I hope it was insured and you had to sign for it! I don't believe a PO or UPS would allow something to be shipped like that! I am happy you recieved it without the case being damaged! I hope the tape came off easily! She is a beauty and I know you can get the things you need for her. ! have a site that sells stuff for FW if you need.

dkabasketlady 04-15-2011 04:08 PM

I can't believe that someone would ship a FW like that! Did the tape come off the case with NO problems? I'm glad that your FW made the trip in good condition. Enjoy your BEAUTY!!

Ann L 04-15-2011 04:13 PM

Very lucky to have gotten it at all. If someone really knew what was in there that what it is worth could have just walked off with it. Boxes aren't that hard to find. Enjoy

lovelyl 04-15-2011 04:15 PM

i have never seen anything so ridiculous! I'm glad everything is OK. I KNOW you will enjoy her! I have dealt with the April 1930's website that people have mentioned - very helpful and quick, great to deal with! I even found a walking foot for my FW (Baby is her name!) on the April 1930's site!

Antdebby1 04-15-2011 04:18 PM

That is incredible! You are so lucky that all is well. When I received my FW last week, the seller had peanuts inside the case as well as peanuts in the box the case/machine was packed it.

Enjoy your new girl! She's beautiful!

pab58 04-15-2011 04:22 PM

It was shipped like that!!!????? How irresponsible!!!

brushandthimble 04-15-2011 04:37 PM

I could not believe she shipped it that way! I was in shock!
The tape did leave a little residual, or removed a little color. NO I did NOT have to sign for it, sorry I missed the mailman, and he left it out in sight for anyone looking. Good thing it was not raining like it was on Wed, it would have been ruined.

I had another FW from ebay and boy that packaged real well! Not mine, bought on behalf of a friend.

vintagemotif 04-15-2011 05:46 PM

This is somewhat comical. I would keep all the stickers on the case as proof that it came shipped to you this way. This makes a wonderful story to share with others, all part of this vintage machine's history. I love it! :)

Sewfine 04-15-2011 10:13 PM

Glad you received it in one piece. Surprise it made...gas and grocery cost are on the rise, never though boxes was also.

Sewfine

Gramof6 04-16-2011 02:11 AM

Oh my goodness!!! I am just mortified at the way this was shipped! It is truly amazing that you got it. And all in one piece. I would raise heck with the seller. Well I actually cannot believe anyone would allow it be shipped that way. Geesh. Both of mine were in two boxes each and packed with peanuts and bubblewrap. I began to wonder if I would ever get to the machines. LOL I hope you & Lizzy have many many years of happiness & make many quilts together.

There are also several original power cords listed on E-Bay. About your FW, we have won many machine auctions on E-Bay and nothing surprises me. We won a Singer model 99 in a Bentwood case (domed wood). The machine arrived totally destroyed. It was a beautiful machine we bid on according to the pictures on E-Bay. The seller gave us no satisfaction at all. E-Bay refunded our money as the seller had no packing whatsoever and nothing inside the case to secure the machine to the base. The machine flopped around inside the case and totally destroyed the case and damaged the machine. I am so glad your machine arrived in as good condition as it did.

CAJAMK 04-16-2011 03:22 AM

Hello! I have been selling on EBAY for 12 years full time and I am astounded at the way this was shipped. In my wildest dreams I would not ship an item that looks like that! When you take off the labels I am sure some of the backing is going to come off. If you paid via Paypal you do have some recourse. First contact the seller and let him/her know that this is unacceptable. If you wish to keep the machine you can get a partial refund for the damage (outer package and if there is any damage to the machine itself). Or if you don't want to keep it then ask for a full refund with the seller pre-paying the shipping! I would also contact Ebay & paypal as you are covered under paypal protection rules. You ordered a machine & outer box. Not a machine and an outer shipping box! If you have any question feel free to PM me. I can guide you. But being an Ebay seller on this board that is horrible. And I am also a quilter & lover of FW's..that is just plain laziness on the seller's part and you should be compensated. Something like this happened to me around Christmas with an Accuquilt Go & dies I ordered. I did resolve the matter with the seller & received a good partial refund without going thru the Paypal process. If you do resolve the matter in an equitable way. Good or neutral feedback. As an Ebay seller..things are hard very hard. Give credit where credit is due.

coachmatthewsvhs 04-16-2011 03:30 AM

I bet the post office is the one who taped the handle!

sueisallaboutquilts 04-16-2011 04:21 AM

I'm so glad it wasn't damaged!
You really should at least let the seller know that it shouldn't be sent that way so he/she knows for the future.
Whether they listen or not at least you put it out there.
Have fun!!! :D:D FW's are awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

dixiechunk 04-16-2011 04:55 AM

Try featherweight221.com
I have done business with Dave and Sharon for several years.
Very honest people.

I've heard the same thing about them.
But we have Billy right here. He may have them.

sherriequilts 04-16-2011 05:39 AM

That is really awful. Glad the machine survived. Sure would like to know who that seller was as I'd never, repeat never, want to buy anything from them. Hope you get some satisfaction from Ebay and PayPal. All the best and happy quilting.

Olivia's Grammy 04-16-2011 06:08 AM

OMG! I shipped a FW to one of the ladies on the QB. I stuffed bubble wrap inside so nothing would move and UPS wrapped it in bubble before putting it in the box.
Glad your FW is ok.

doll-lady 04-16-2011 06:11 AM

glad it arrived in as good shape as it did without any box or packing. it is a beauty.

Quiltbeagle 04-16-2011 06:58 AM

My post office would never have accepted that. Hope everything is still intact.

gramquilter2 04-16-2011 07:32 AM

Have never seen this done before but the machine is perfect.

Linda - K. 04-16-2011 08:36 AM

Yikes!! So glad it made it to you and didn't pass anyone in the process that knew what it is and they had "sticky fingers". You might not have gotten it at all. There is a web site (not sure where) that shows how to package a 221 for mailing to help get it there safely. I think if I bought one online I'd send the link to the person to make sure they knew what to do.
Also, for parts I've used both www.221parts.com and www.featherweight221.com. I bought a new foot pedal (with plugs and all ready to go!) and feet also from parts site. Then from FW221 site I've gotten parts and his book/dvds. I highly recommend the book and dvds for maintenance, etc. Went to Dave's maintenance class here in WA (he's the FW221 site owner) and he's very good in explaining how to take care of your baby.

dixiechunk 04-16-2011 08:41 AM

I am so jealous! Dave's DVD and book are my lifelines. Would love to take a class from him but he couldn't be any further away unless he lived overseas! Glad you had that oppurtunity.
