FW making a knocking noise?
Hoping this isn't anything too serious, but I figured I'd check with the gurus here! My FW has started to make a strange knocking noise when I sew. It doesn't happen when I take out the thread and rev it, only when the foot is down and actively sewing something. Even then it doesn't usually start for at least a dozen or so stitches, and then comes in and out intermittently. I can't determine where it's coming from; at first I thought it was because my table I was using was a little uneven, and the machine could wobble, but after moving to a different part of the table I haven't found any improvement.
I've oiled her up good, and cleaned out all of the dust and lint I could find. Does anyone have any ideas what is going on? |
Have you lubricated the gears and motor if need be(not oil)?

Is the needle in the right way around?
|
Yes to both--I actually accidentally came close to overlubing her motor, didn't realize it didn't need to be done that often. >< And I made absolutely certain the needle was in the right way. The only thing I can think of that was causing the knocking was the new needle I was using--it's an Organ needle, 100/15 that I got because I found a deal. It's much bigger than the 75/11's I was using (Schmetz), and I think she just doesn't like the bigger needles.

it doesn't cost very much to change the needle - be sure to put it in the right direction - double check your manual
|
I think it's your needle - switch back to the Schmetz and see if it still makes the noise.
|
I would swtich back to your old type needle & see what happens

Did you ever figure out the answer to this? I've been using my sister's FW until I got one of my own for Christmas. The new one has a bit of a knock. Not very loud. I almost feel it more than hear it. I am sew new to sewing and sewing machines. Maybe I'm imagining it. But It just seems different than my sister's did. More of a clunk than a knock. Did changing the needle help yours?
Thanks, Gloria in Kansas City |
Check your belt for Knicks and make sure nothing is leaning against the motor. Last week I heard this awful noise and my heart sank. It was a business card was pushed up against the belt by some material. I was so thankful.
