genie singer sewing machine 353 ?
 

I bought a genie singer sewing machine 353 year in the 1970's.
I worked for a week. Then a sq. nut fell from the top of machine (very small part).
I took it in sewing repair shop. They said the bobbin rewinder was the problem.
They couyld not find the part. I could have it cleaned & serviced 80. (not a bad price)
but it would not be able to work right on the bobbin rewinder.
Do you know if there is a place the may have one, or should I maybe sale it for parts.
Not being a person who works on them, need advice.
Do you ever run into them, or is there a better choice. I wanted a light weight, and zig zag,
stiches. Unable to light much weight. I do hope you are having a really good day, thank you.

Did you check the Sew Classic site to see if they carry the part?

Maybe Joe Miller will weigh in. He knows all about bobbin winders. I like the bobbin winders from Wal-Mart, $30 or less.. That saves a lot or wear and tear on your machine and you can wind bobbins ahead of time to save time when working on a quilt. That would give you time to hunt the appropriate part for your machine.

Actually I'm just learning as I go. When it comes to small parts I go to my local sewing machine guy and he "usually" has what I want.

You can go to Singer at: { http://www.singerco.com/support/replacement-parts-chart } and download the .pdf parts list for your machine. Print it, then take that with your machine to your local Singer shop if there is one, or call the Singer fix it shops as listed in the boxes on the same page. Perhaps they will have it.

I'd hate to see a decent machine sold for parts just because of one screw and some dufas salesman that didn't want to work on it. The 70s Singers were still mostly metal and most of them sewed quite well.

I did check several machine parts place and sears, did check sears and singer.
I did not check sew Classic for parts, thanks. The repair place is a babylock place, I will have to hunt for a singer, I don't remember any. I have to go 45 min. to get to that one. Getting back to work on it, I don't se much for the genie singer sewing

I don't have a shop or sell machines. I accumulate them and fix them as needed. That part(s) that's needed can't be that hard to find for a real SM repairman. You just gotta find one of them.

If it's just a square nut that you need, why don't you take the the screw part or whatever you can carry to Home Depot or Lowes to see if you can find a nut that will work?? The threads on the Singer parts may be tricky to find a match for but you never know if you don't look.

If it's the right one, I don't know about your machine, it will give you an idea of what's inside. And Candace is right, a hardware store, or a sewing machine shop. Crimeny, don't give up on the machine due to one lil screw.
