I went to an auction yesterday and bought this Model 99. The wheel turns and it is clean. I am going to clean and shine it up, but I want to do it the right way. I have not plugged it in yet because I want to make sure the the motor is good. I know several members are expert at making a vintage machine purr like a kitten. Also, there was a tool in the case. I do not have a clue how it is to be used. Does anyone recognize it? My Mom thinks the case is walnut. I paid $25. Was that a good deal? I am anxious to get to sew on my new machine, but I want to be sure it is ready to go. I looked up the serial number on the internet and found out it was made in Elizabeth, N.J. in 1934 and that it is a 99. I was hoping for a Featherweight when I went to the auction, but am very happy with this machine.

Looks like a throttle operated with a press of your leg to make the machine go.

I believe it might be a knee attachment to the motor control rather than using the usual foot control.

Congrats on your great score. She is a beauty and the case is in great shape.

You got it at a good price and your extra part is the knee control lever. You will see a hole in the bottom right where it should be inserted. The main thing to check on vintage machines is the wiring. If it is cracked, broken or really limp and rubbery it should be re-wired before plugging it in or you may get a shock.

Lucky you

Yes that extra piece is the knee attachment. Be glad it is there because sometimes they are missing and then the machine can only be converted to a handcrank unless you can find another knee bar somehere. I think you will really like the 99. I have one and it sews beautifully very similar to a Featherweight.
