Help with revitalization of Singer 1900's

I have a chance to buy a Singer from the early 1900's in a wooden domed case. I have only seen pics & it looks as if it might be in fair condition. I would like some help in sprucing it up. It has gold & red filigree designs on it & they don't look too bad but the black on the machine needs some cleaning & polishing ??? It is not a "Red Eye" but may be a sphinx (cannot tell for sure as the pics are not the best). The case has some chips out of it but that is not my main concern. The seller says it works with all the original parts. I just want to clean it up. I want it for decorative purposes only. Can anyone on this board help me out. Would be very appreciative.

Original Sphinx decals don't have much red to them, if any...

If you just want to clean the machine for display, wipe it down with sewing machine oil, and then a layer or two of car wax. :)
