My machine came in an ugly cabinet not worth a picture so he made this base box for "Grace". He added the special touch of carving quilt pattern on the box with the tiny spool knob. He's a keeper!

He did a great job. He is certainly worth keeping

That is super nice. Thanks for sharing a picture of the base. I have to make a couple of these for two of my vintage machines and I love looking at what other people make.

Very nice. I love the quilted pattern part.

Oh, isn't that clever? Love the quilty drawer for all your little bits and pieces. You are one lucky gal (some of us don't have handy hubbies).

Now, tell us about the foot on your 99.

harrishs 10-02-2012 05:56 AM

That is sew nice!

Mine had the knee pedal that was attached to the big cabinet it was in. My husband changed it to be used as a foot pedal on the floor. Or did you mean the foot where the needle is? lol That is the original one I believe. I bought an extra foot and needles but I like keeping the needle in the machine that it came with. It looks pretty old too. When I go to actually sew with it I will change the needle. I have to study up on the pamphlet that I ordered so I can thread it correctly and see it actually sew. All the parts move nicely and quietly too without being threaded so I think it will sew fine.

Looks very nice. I like the tiling. I'm not ready to start on boxes yet as we have at least one other project to finish first. Heck, we need to spend a weekend doing something other than looking for new machines before I can even hope to finish that one :)

Very nice!!!

Looks like a zipper foot attachment to me. Not a reguler standard sewing foot for the 99.

that is a wonderful base for your machine! i love the quilt pattern touch too. it's really cute. your husband did a super job with it!

i think it looks like a zipper foot too. otherwise the needle would go in the center of the foot.

I have a 99K and it has a stitch reverse. Are you sure it is a 99? Maybe so. However, I just love your machine base. You 'd better hug him good.[your husband, that is]

It's probably a pretty early 99 - notice that there are no numbers on the tension assembly. Nygal, is the stitch length set by tightening/loosening that thumbscrew on the riser?

Love the base your DH made for you! Like the quilt box, too. How clever. Looks like a zipper foot to me...

Neat box! Great that your hubby creates things like this for you!

nstitches4u 10-04-2012 09:58 AM

Grace's new box is beautiful. Your hubby is definitely a keeper!

AuntieD 10-04-2012 10:29 AM

What a wonderful husband! Great looking woodwork.

nygal 10-04-2012 01:31 PM

You are all right...I didn't realize it was a zipper foot even tho I know what they look like. I did buy a replacement "regular" foot for when I sew with it. I have to get brave and thread "Grace" this weekend. I have the pamphet but the pictures are so small in it. I will have to "study up" on the tension dials etc. I'll keep you all posted.

When I started this collecting habit one of the first machine I bought was a 99 with no case thinking I could find one. Did not know a good case was worth more than the machine. I will have to to make a case some day. Very nice job.
