I've used murphy's oil soap and it worked great for me.

I used Charlee' method and it worked well for me. Murphy's, then I can't remember some kind of citrus polish and/or wood restorer. I knew I didn't want to "refinish", just bring some life back to the old wood. Then I used stove polish on the treadle and I am very pleased with that look. I cleaned it first, and there was no rust. I didn't bother with the gold lettering.

You should try some oil used for specially cleaning the treadle oak cabinet like Murphy's oil. Hope it helps you .
