How many sewing machines is to many?
Okay I admit it I can,t turn down a bargain on a good machine. Yesterday I had 30 minutes before I needed to be leaving for work after running several errands. SOOOOOOO what would a quilter that has 13 machines already, do? Yes in dee de , I went to a thrift store. IT WASN,T my fault. It fallowed me home. I found a Bernina 730 record with 10 feet and the tray that swings around. Oh my it was $24.95. I almost fainted. It was made in 1968 and I am having it cleaned and beautified this Friday one day service. I can,t wait to play on it.
So the question IS: Can a person have to many machines? |
I don't think you can have too many sewing machines! (My husband has a different opinion!) And especially when you get a deal like that!
Colleen |
Nope, not your fault. I have that machine and would stock up on 10 more at the price you paid! Exellent machine and wonderful deal. CONGRATULATIONS on your find and new "baby".
Yes, you have too many. So I will help you by taking the new one off your hands:>
How many machines is too many?
LOL LOL ROFLMAO .................. How about 3 x 13 + ? = ?? I suppose you could say too many is when you can't walk through the house without tripping on them. If that's the case I still have room for a few more. Joe |
Don't you wish you could sew on two machines at one time LOL I still have my 830 Record from 1974 -- she still sews a great stitch... Enjoy your 730 Record

Are you asking me or my spousal unit? :D
I don't know the answer to your question but when I have too many, I'll let you all know. It's pretty far off, though.
I certainly don't think you can have too many. I think like Joe, I can still walk through my house!
Ive heard of ppl owning 30+ so i guess your ok!:-D. I own 7 how many do i use?? 1 lol
Just picked up my 12th today. A 1972 Domestic, like brand new, for $16.00 in cabinet. I have a penchant for those in cabinets or maybe that is what I tend to find mostly. Anyway, as long as there is another wall with some space, I say go for it. Altough pretty soon I'll be running out of walls.
until maybe 6 months ago I owned one , I now own 16 and have bought 20
when out ofg wall space , I found cabinet models are big enough to put a portable on, but then it's a good place for a plant also .. LOL.. you don't have to water a sewing machine very often |
My husband found a Necchi for $15 yesterday. I went and tested it and it was worth $15 but I made myself walk away. I don't know why I torture myself!! I have 3 machines in the house, two of them are waiting on parts to run perfectly. I also have 2 in the graveyard.
I think my magic number seems to be 4. When I have 4, I feel like I need to get rid of one and right now, I'd love to sell my old Singer. I'm afraid all our savings has gone to car repairs ($5000 in the past 2 months on 3 vehicles) and my son had an accident yesterday at summer camp and I can't *wait* to get that hospital bill! So, even tho I did have the $15 to buy old Necchi, now is not the time for her to come home with me. |
I last counted that my husband and I have about 30 so No as long as you have room I don't think you can have too many! 80)

One can never have too many; LOL !!!! Me?.. 13 + 3 toy size.... do I sew on all of them? Nope, lol. Does it matter? Nope.
You got a great deal. As to your question re: how many is to many. Hmmmm... not sure I understand the concept of having too many sewing machines...
I have 10 and have my eye on one at Goodwill. Hoping someone will buy it and remove the temtation. LOL

I just got home recently from an anniv. vacation (36 years) with 2 toy machines (now i have 50 little machines) and 2 full sized machines, one in a case and one in a cabnit. So now i have probably 30 plus full sized machines and 3 FW. got the 2 new full sized machines for $35, one is a Pfaff 130, blk in cabnit and other is an Adler,gr, made in West Germany. Will get them pics up soon in my albums. But I told DH I didn't have a Pfaff or Adler and price was sooooooo good! |

Judy in Phx, AZ I also have my Bernina Record 830 from about 1974. She has never failed me yet. |
Well, I have a guest house on my property that, when we get it cleaned out (we just moved here a few months ago) will be my sewing studio. All of my sewing room has been packed up for the better part of a year now due to our move and remodeling etc going on here, and since that time I've acquired a serger, a treadle, a new industrial machine, 3 vintage (60's & 70's) machines, and a new embroidery machine. I already had 2 antique singers, a mid-arm, an embroidery machine, and 2 other machines...good thing my hubby loves me. :)
I tell everyone they are my "toys", just like a man has a motorcycle , vintage car, or what ever. I can have "toys" too.
I'm not sure how many is "too" many! Before I joined this Board, I had 2 modern ones which I loved. Then a nice lady gave me a 15-91 and oh did she sew so well!! Then she invited her friends to come play and now I'm up to 13 or is it 14...???? All Singers, except 1 Phaff. Now I want to collect "brands" so I'm looking for a Bernini...but I also want another FW (have 2...black and white/green). I am now selling regular furniture so I have room for sewing machine cabinets!! Oh well, this could be an addiction to other things that I would have to go to rehab for. Luckily, there's no rehab for collecting vintage machines....just enablers!!! LOL
Sounds like you got a pretty good deal! Congrats!
Oh, my! Well, I still have my very first machine, a singer 328K purchased in 1963. Occasionally, it needs a little adjusting, etc., but still sews extremely well. I also have a BablyLock serger, and a couple of Singer 751, and a Singer 1425 (which was my mothers, but which I inherited when she died). Unfortunately, I have no room because my aunt's china, crystal, etc., keep sakes, and all that are packed in rubbermaid tubs and stacked in my house! She's given all of this stuff to me, but I need to find a place to put it all up! LOL

i am a personal friend and have seen her sewing machines, They are wonderful and she has put in a lot of time and work to get them all clean and working. She has them displayed in her house in groups and can tell you the history from where it was made , the date the type and many interesting things.I am proud of her and she sure likes her machines.you can not guess how many she has. She also takes time to make quilts, throws, lap robes, does many volunteer things. I am happy to call her my friend. quilt for fun grandma g

We are having company from Florida at the beginning of next month. Soooo, I decided I would clear out and spruce up the spare bedroom. These people haven't ever been in our home before and they are related to my DH. Thus, I want to make a decent impression. We removed 36 vintage and antique sewing machines (mostly Singer). Some have been refurbished and some are waiting the attention of a well meaning husband. So, I don't guess you can have too many but I think he (DH) is pressing his luck. I think I will have a garage sale soon LOL.

as soon as you run out of room in the house then you take over the garage and on to a nice shed and if your children have homes with garages -oh my the options are endless

Why of course the anser IS No! But this is coming from ME who has well over 30+ LOL
Yes, if you can't get to the one you want to sew on. LOL Bernina 750 for under $25, ofcourse you can not leave that one. I really enjoy paper piecing on my Bernina 830 vintage.
One can never have too many sewing machines. Wow! What a bargain on your Bernina! Congratulations!
I have over 30, probably close to 40 machines now, and DH bought me another yesterday. It is a 201, my third, BUT my first ever Singer with the blue 100 yr anniversary badge on it. It is in a Frankenstein case - Wood looking bottom with crappy plastic case top. DH says we can klook for a wooden case or cabinet for the machine. Both of the other 201s have issues foir which I have zero time right now so am hoping this one actually sews like the seller claimed it did. Long story for a short answer of "NO, one can never have 2 many machines." Besides a vintage Bernina for $25 would have come home with me too.
I have 8 and 2 sergers, and one toy singer. I almost sold one 2 weeks ago, a friend wanted my 99k, she even wrote the check and I was still not sure I wanted to sell it. Oh I hesitated, and then my dh pipes in, "don't sell that machine, you might need it". So apparently I don't have too many :)
I have a juki, singer, singer, singer, kenmore, baby lock, baby lock,Morse, Pfaff, and last but not least another pfaff, they all sew, and keeps my fingers very happy. Im still looking for more. lol
I bought a Bernina Record 730 in 1969 .... and it still works good. I have only had it serviced once in all that time (light bulb went out); but I should take it and get it cleaned. The *fancy* stitches no longer work and it runs a little on the slow side. But within the past 6 wks. I have treated myself to a new Janome 6600 and a 1961 Featherweight .... now the proud owner of 3 machines!!! Loving every minute of being retired!!!

Loss count of my machines, so I guess I'd say as long as you have the room there is no to many machines, lOL
