I don't know what this is...

Someone local was cleaning out their basement, and she wanted to dispose of an old sewing machine. I took it thinking I could google info. NOT! The front of the machine says Model 302, no brand at all. Inside the harp, it says Made in Japan. On the bottom side, it says J-A G1.

It is missing spool pins, there is one screw but no pin, and I don't know how to thread it.

It is also very sluggish....the foot pedal takes a minute to get it started.

Any idea?

Thanks for your help.

It looks like a Signature machine to me, sold by Wards, but it surely needs cleaning and lubing.

Hummmmm.... no idea what brand/model that is. It does look like it is a work horse though. I bet if you took it to an old sewing machine guy they will be able to give you some much needed information. Congrats on posting your first photo successfully!

Thanks...we can probably clean it ourselves (save me some money), but I might end up taking it in anyway. I will need a spool pin and maybe a bulb for the light.

Thanks for the info. Maybe I can google some info about it now. I wasn't getting anything just googling model 302.

You can clean it yourself and buy a lightbulb after you remove the old one to see which type it is. Spool pin - sew-classic.com or make one with a wooden skewer. Slow - remove the cover to the foot controller and vacuum the dust out and clean the contacts. Both my MW machines are marked as such, but it doesn't matter who made it - just how well it sews and I bet this will be a good one.
