I just noticed something yesterday. .........
 

Yesterday while looking at the machines on GW I noticed a Singer 500. That machine was in what looked like a regular wood case like the Japanese machines come in. Since my 500 does not have a case I checked the hinge holes against a case I have handy and with some modification it will fit.
I'll have to remove the separation normally found on the right end of the box, but that's OK. It's better than paying $75.00 for used Singer case on eBay.
So, problem solved. Well not really. Now I have to find a case to modify.
