Identifying Singer 128
 

I have recently located my grandmother's Singer sewing machine with a cousin in another state. We both learned to sew on this machine as young girls. I would like to locate and purchase a machine like it. She hasn't sent me pictures but has given me the Serial # AH168407 and the motor is a BZ9. It is in a bentwood case and is the matte black crinkle finish (I think it is referred to as "Godzilla"). According to the serial number it is a 128 made in 1947 in Elizabeth, NJ and has a vibrating shuttle. I found some info in an Adjuster's Manual on the singer website that said the 128-23 has the BZ9 motor. Is there any reason I should think it is not a 128-23? I would love to find one in good condition. Any recommendations?

From all the descriptions she has given me over the phone, and from my fuzzy childhood memory, this is what I think it is - except that it is electric. I really don't know what else it could be with the serial number, motor number and knowing it is a matte finish. Tell me what to look for and something about their operation.

Lookis just like mine. I made mine a hand crank also. So no you can call her a 128-23. have fun with her!

It's too bad you are so far away. I have one for sale for $35 (e machine, not HC). I could never pack that little boat anchor so that it would arrive safely with the bentwood case. If my son is ever sent that way, I'll let you know.

I love my 128s! I have 2 - and plain one with celtic knots (I think) and a La Vencedora. Both sew fantastic - both are handcranks.
