I'm getting a Singer treadle - UPDATE

http://www.quiltingboard.com/vintage...e-t218693.html

So disappointed - it is not a Singer treadle - it is a Singer 301. My mom kept saying a foot treadle - but what she meant was a foot pedal. It is in a very large, heavy cabinet - two toned brown/beige with a little flip up section like my Featherweight. Then she has a Kenmore that she wanted to keep in case she had something that she needed to sew (she is 90 yrs old). We went to my cousin's house to see what kind of machine my aunt had and went into her basement to search for a sewing machine cabinet (cousin cannot walk) - which we finally found - could not see very well in the darkened basement and it had so much junk on the top that we could not open up the top of the cabinet, but my DH managed to open one of the drawers underneath the cabinet and found a book that said White. I can have it also if I want it someday. Poor DH, had to haul the 301/cabinet up from my mom's basement and then take it outside to the car - in the rain - had to unload the trunk - we had just come back from the Paducah Quilt Show and the trunk was full. The cabinet did not fit in the trunk so he tried the back seat - no go - so had to take it back into the house and turn it upside down and get a screwdriver and take off the legs and then back out to the trunk. No book, so will have to try to find one. Now my mom says that her mom did not sew, so she doesn't remember where the machine came from.

YOU HAVE A 301, don't be disappointed, you will LOVE her. And she is a two tone also. Awesome

And the 301 needs a cradle (an adapter) to go into a cabinet. So, if you are not thrilled with the cabinet, you can sell it and the cradle adapter and just use the 301 as a portable. You can't lose. I can find entire Singer treadles for $75 - $125 or less in my locale. But I can't find reasonably priced Singer Slant machines.

My 301 is the one I like to sew on the most. The slant needle makes it so much easier to see what you're sewing. I have a featherweight as well but I prefer the 301. I've got the solid mocha (light beige) which is easier on the eyes than a black machine. I'm sure you'll love it.

Actually, just found the manual - DH said that there was one - so kept looking through all of the stuff that we came home with from Paducah and I finally found it amongs some quilting books. Can't wait to sew on it.

I am glad you found your manual; I have a 301 like yours, but mine doesn't have the sentimental value. But, even so, it is wonderful machine; your will absolutely love the difference the slant needle makes; and it is so quiet, and quiet is one of the main reasons I'll buy a machine.

Please let me correct those typos above; "it is a wonderful machine; you will absolutely love"
