I'm in love!!

I have been searching for about 3 years for a Singer Treadle with the sphnyx decals on it. Most of the ones I have seen or looked at were way to expensive if they were restored or cabinets, machines in deplorable conditions and beyond my trying to restore them. But 2 days ago, I found this one on our local CL for $50.00!! I am so in love and excited! She is not frozen and the cabinet is not stained or water ruined. My brother, who can fix, restore, just about anything, is going to help me make her look almost new. However, I will not paint it or replace decals as I want to keep it as close to her 88 years of life! From what I found she is from 1924 and is 127, SN# AAo26052. I love her and have decided to call her "Bessie", because she is the BEST for me!!!

Enjoy it! Can hardly wait until you have Bessie all cleaned up to her Sunday best. Any chance that you remove the motor and return her to being a treadle?

I have my grandmother's 1907 shpynx, but Elizabeth has always been a treadle. I just put a new belt of her and she sews like a dream. It never ceases to amaze me that even though she's 105, I never have a minutes trouble out of her. Some of my younger babies give me fits. Just goes to show that they don't make them like they used to. I hope you enjoy your Bessie!

I have a 127 Sphynx built in 1920 that's in pretty good shape, I bought it at a YS in April. They were asking $75 and I got her for $60. She's named Avis and had a broken belt (part of getting the $ down) which I replaced. She's in the same cabinet as yours, the drawers were full of stuff and I found 8 attachments wound up in old lace, etc. The drawers were a treasure chest: a wooden needle case, buttons, weird things, a family letter, etc.
Avis was the beginning of my vintage machine mania, in fact, because of her I found this great website with all these cool, smart people who are soooo helpful. |
Very nice!!
Love the cabinet!! Have fun and enjoy her!! |
DH sews on a treadle Sphinx machine we got for $50? or so at a "junque" shop 25 years ago. In a nice oak cabinet too. Unfortunately he has sewed so much, not only the decals but some of the black paint is worn away!

I think I have one of those - I used to work a prechool and one of the parents gave it to me - I have never really done anything with it - treadle machine - a friend of mine might take it - not sure -
I have a 'new to me' White Rotary in much better shape that I want to play with - needs a rubber wheel to run the motor |
