jadeite green singer
 

Hi All!

Hubby and I stopped in today at a sewing machine store (sales and service) and there was a jadeite green 3/4 sized singer in a cabinet just inside the door - even the power cord was green! It is the same size and shape/style as my 128 or could it be a 99k???? (we are rather new to the sewing machine obession so are not familiar with all of the older models)

The person working in the store said it came in just on Saturday as a "donation"!

She quoted us what we thought was an absurd price considering it was a "donation" and also the cabinet had a huge gouge in it ...but having spent some time just now looking for even a picture of a green Singer of this type I am wondering if this is an unusual machine????

anyone have any information to offer on small green Singers?

(definitely not a Featherweight and not the same pale green as a FW)

It's a 185 K or J but 185 for sure and it's basically the same as the 99 but a more modern version. Cute machine, I have one. Straight stitch only and heavy, but sweet. It's not rare, but is collectable. How much were they asking? It may be a donation, but they may have time and some parts into it...

My Singer 15-125 is green.

But the 15's aren't 3/4 size are they?

It sounds like a 185 to me. I just bought one in mint condition for $15.00. It looks exactly like my 99K only green. Mine is portable but weighs a ton.

My 185 is cute, but the heavy weight makes it not so "portable" as it is supposed to be. However, it sews just fine and should be collectable. Mine cost $20 at a garage sale. I didn't have to do anything to it except oil and clean it.

(((sigh))) we are conflicted as to shape of the "head" ...he says it is probably a 185 but I thought it was a smaller shape, and we can't remember what kind of bobbin either. I was on my way to the hospital for some tests so wasn't totally focused...and then after the tests we went by an antique mall and played with a half dozen other machines! LOL
Candace - they hadn't even touched it from the time it was shoved just inside the door, so I don't thnk they had any time or parts into it....and they were asking $200 for it!!!!!
Briarberry - sounds like you and I may live in the same neck of the woods....you got yours for a good price!

If you like it you can always make them an offer. I agree $200 is too high. The bobbin on 185's is just a drop in.

$200.00 is way too much for that machine even in Canada. Especially if it was a donation. They just aren't that uncommon here. My aunt had one, and I didn't keep it. It never sewed particularly well, and I am fortunate to have many lovely black Singers to do my bidding:)

So where in Perth County are you? I'm in S.W. Ontario too!

If you were at the Antique Mall in Stratford, I do find that the vendors for those different booths really think their machines are worth much more than they really are. But someone will pay the price if they want it badly enough. Vintage Singers up here seem to be way more expensive than in the States, but there are some good buys on Kijiji if you wait long enough:)
