Know what this is and what it's supposed to do?

I found this in the boxes of accessories in a 201-2 I bought a few months ago. It has 2 sets of accessories (at least) that include some with featherweight numbers. This has no numbers on it. I almost think it's a feed dog cover for a featherweight, but I looked that up and they don't look like this. Unless, of course, it's a homemade one. I don't have a featherweight to try it on.

It looks like a throat plate to me.

Well, yes, it's a throat plate. The question is, why is it dug out like that? Why does it have 2 needle holes?

I'll see if I can take a better photo.

I suspect it is one made by someone vs a production run for any machine. No clue as to why there would be two needle holes. I could only guess the reason it would be hollowed out in the back would perhaps be to cover feeddogs. If it's for a FW, I couldn't say. Haven't looked at mine recently enough (sadly) to know.

Yes, the most obvious guess would be a feed dog covering throat plate... but for which machine, I don't know.

Thanks, I went back and checked and it fits the 201. The machine came with an Griest overcaster, Griest zig-zag, buttonholer and a hemstiticher. It may have to do with one of those attachments. Maybe she didn't know how to drop the feed dogs. Who knows?

I'll keep it and see what I find out.

Thanks again.

Glad you found out what it belonged to.

Carolinagrl 04-13-2017 04:10 PM

The hemstitcher takes a special throat plate.

Macybaby 04-13-2017 04:20 PM

The hemstitcher plate has holes like that = so it's possible someone fabricated something to replace a lost plate. The original is a bit raised to cover the feed dogs, so this one was ground out to make room for them.

That makes sense. The hemstitcher has a featherweight throat plate.

Thanks, Cathy.
