I have a treadle much older than that one that used to belong to my great grandmother, and found that I could get parts for it in any sewing store in an Amish community about 100 miles away, including a new belt. Just thought I'd pass that along. Cindy

You were fortunate to find such a lovely cabinet and machine. Learn to use the machine and you will enjoy how relaxing it is to sew with a treadle machine. I have that same cabinet, it has a 1936 Singer 201k in it right now. I recently replaced the original treadle stand with an identical set that is in better condition and is so much smoother. (doesn't clank either) My treadle cabinet was free, the second treadle stand was $15. My original set was the donor for the treadle belt guides and belt shifter. Sharon |
You will love having such a beauty. I love my treadle because (here in Florida) when the power goes out (hurricanes, at times) you can still sew. There is no better way to get rid of frustration than to treadle it away. Enjoy!!!

Good story and lovely machine. It's funny, I used to keep an envelope of "stash" money under my 201 in its cabinet.

Thanks for all the nice words about my new beauty. I moved her to a more perminent place in my sewing studio yesterday and got out my wood oil with a light stain in it. I put some on part of the cabinet and it covered up all the little scratches beautifully. I may not get the cabinet refinished after all! I did some more practicing on her yesterday and she sure has a nice stitch....hope my Elna doesn't get jealous! Oh and my DGD's came over yesterday and saw her and can hardly wait for me to show them how to use her (they are almost 5 and almost 7).

I saw an estate sale listed on Craig's List yesterday and talked the hubby into going with me...and came home with a 1940 Singer 15-88! We got her for $180. I asked the guy if he'd take $150 and he said not this early in the day. I figured it was still worth what he was asking. They helped me put the machine into the table and me and hubby loaded it up. Got her home and when I set her back up I found a sealed envelope in the bottom of the cubby. Opened it up and found $32! I guess the lady that had owned her was looking down from heaven and wanted me to have her for my price! We have a sewing/vac store here in town that has a very old guy that works there. He knows everything about sewing machines so I paid him a visit and bought a new belt,needles,and bobbins. He told me how to install the belt. Between his directions and YouTube I got it on. She sews like a dream! I love her already and see she is going to give my legs a workout! Now to discover her name...
