Just hurts to see pics like that with local pick-up only - Arghhh

Patty55 01-25-2013 12:31 PM

Beautiful machine! FW's are very popular now and the prices are going up fast. It doesn't say where you live but I would check out all the thrift stores and antique stores. You might be able to find one that's just been there for a while they want to get rid of.

there have been a lot of fws for sale here in the Portland/Seattle area & generally, the prices have gone up into the $300 -$500 range. When I got mine 2 years ago, they were selling for around $100 - $250 in good shape & with attachments & a nice case.

$300 - 400 for average black FWs around Albany, NY despite insane asking prices of over $600.

Debbie C 01-26-2013 07:35 PM

$250 is a reasonable asking price. Here in New York they could go as high as $600-$700! The photos show a very clean looking machine. It says 'pristine'.....if it's nearby, go check it out and if you can afford it, I'd go for it! I have 3 FW's and love them all! I'll never be without one...ever!

oh my, i'm just south of there . . . but i already have one. that is a good price for around here, but i got mine for $225, also from a Portland suburb. dang, i'm tempted even though i don't "need" another one. it's probably gone by now anyway.

Here I like to check www.auctionzip.com for info on auctions. You enter your zip and how far you will travel and it pulls up auctions. They allow key word searches so I do featherweight, singer, feather weight, etc. and go from there. A lot of times there are pictures etc.

Here in the midwest, a price of $200-250 is a good range. Easy to get parts and a number are always at auction.

We also have a number on craigslist. If you use www.searchtempest.com (fairly hard to use) you can check craigslist over a large geographic area. Hope this helps.

note that the ad says "local delivery only". not the same as local pick up! if truly interested...i would email the person and ask if they would ship....

Monroe 01-27-2013 01:36 PM

Maybe a local QB member would be willing to pick it up and ship it for someone?

w7sue 01-27-2013 08:09 PM

I found the ad by clicking on the link in the message, but when I went to craigslist for Portland, it was not on there - I wonder if it has been sold already. I have three and would buy that one in a heartbeat! I am going to go do some more research on it.

Sent them an email - hopefully it is still available ...

oregongirl 01-27-2013 08:41 PM

it was still there last night - i hope you can get it!

Great price considering condition and accessories offered. Go for it!!!

I just looked at a white one yesterday. They wanted $200 for it - the zipper foot was on the machine; no other feet; no bobbin; chip in the paint on the bed; more bubbling areas of paint. Did have the foot control and case but way too rich for my cheap blood for that condition!

Just saw this listing in my area. If DH wasn't having surgery this week and my budget would allow it, I'd consider going after it. I already have one and I think DH would faint if I said I wanted another machine.

keep checking garage sales. Thats how i found my pristine white one. I paid 90.00 for her. She has the case and all her attachments. I had to replace the belt on her but thats it. if she hadn't been threaded I would have thought she was never used.

I'm happy to say she found a home in Rancho Cucamonga!!!
My sister lives in Portland and she agreeded to pick it up for me. The seller brought it to her office and she told me it looked exactly like the picture.
Now, we are working on shipping it to me. I'm so excited!!

Most of the good machines listed in the Portland C List are for pickup only. I questioned them on this and was told that so many were damaged during delivery that they made it a policy. Too bad, though.
