My 1902 Hand Crank

Here is the photos of the Singer 1902 Hand Crank that I have been working on. Sure wish she had been finished before the power outage. After a lot of Triflow everything moves smoothly. She has over a hundred years of built up oil varnish that I am slowly removing. Maybe that is what preserved her, the oil and all the dirt and cobwebs. The has a coffin top that needs refurbishing also. It is in three pieces but I love her anyway.

I do need a presser foot for her, hers is bent, can't figure out how that happened. Also I need a bobbin winder ring. Any suggestions where I can get those items? How do you remove the back cover plate and the round bobbin plate's screw is frozen, it won't turn? I don't want to do anything that will damage those pieces.

The cover plates over the shuttle are very rough. Is it possible to have them replated? I do have reproductions but I sure would like to restore the originals.

You are making progress on the sweet lady! I enjoy cleaning these machines up and seeing how they sparkle.

Thanks Jacquie. I am running to get my camera right now. The parts are not missing, just in bad shape, especially the presser foot.

The first two pictures should be of the presser foot that appears, to me, to be bent. The third is of the bobbin plates that are really in rough shape. I just discovered that the repro plates I have are for a Model 27 and do not fit, they are longer. According to the ISMACS site, the machine is a Model 28. I guess that is another reason to have too many machines (not!) you never know when you will need parts.

Caroline, yes. You can have the parts re-plated. You're doing an awesome job with this machine!! Wonder how the presser foot got bent? Seems strange! LOL

Yes, I agree, very strange but definitely bent. Good to know the plates can be replated. That I do want to do.

have you tried navel jelly on the plates? as for the foot, I will take a look at the ones I have out there..BUT, a handy man can reshape that foot with an anvil and hammer!

I'm thinking someone tried to pry a lid off a container? Or used the foot to pry some other part off the machine? You never know. Glad you are undertaking the R&R (rescue and revival). Hope all goes well.
