my first vintage machine
 

Also my first time posting. New member.
I have been enjoying reading what others post since February
But have not been able to log on due to mix up in signing in.
Anyway it has finally been fixed. Thank you Patrice.:)
My DH says I have saved him $2,000 !! I got interested in
vintage machines by reading on this site how much you all enjoy them and
how well they sew. I have an older Domestic sewing machine and had
been looking at the fancy modern ones.
Met someone who said they had an old Singer sitting in their garage I could
have and see if it worked. It is a 15-90 and was sitting in an old treadle cabinet.
Cabinet was completely warped and was not cast iron--no good .
But my DH was able to fix the motor and cleaned and oiled the machine and I LOVE it.!!
It is so smooth and sews so well. Thanks to all of you for getting us interested.
Now to find a cabinet--and get started in new hobby of rescuing others!!

Keep an eye out at your local Salvation Army. Ours has cabinets often. Buyers want the head and leave the cabinet so the cabinets are sold very reasonably - I paid $1 for one and $7 for another. Be sure to have the measurements of the distance between the pins, center to center, with you. Also the base of the machine though that's not as critical.

Enjoy your new lady. They clean up so pretty and sew so well.

Oh I'd love to see a picture of your new machine!! I also am looking now for a vintage cabinet. I bought my very first vintage machine a Singer 99 this weekend at Goodwill. I was SO thrilled to see "Bella" sitting there just waiting to be rescued by me.

I love my old machines. I have a Singer 99, and Singer 66 that I use all the time. I have two green machines that are from the 1950- 1960's, and have a Singer 600 with all the cams. The 600 needs to be messed with so it works.

I have three cabinets that have no machines in them. Two are Singer cabinets and we have machines for them, the third is an unknown cabinet that uses a machine that must be bolted to the folding top. Someone here in another thread gave me the ID, I lost the thread, but we have no idea at all what machine will fit this cabinet. So I'm using it as a work bench. Poor thing.

Different regions must have different things. The few GWs, SAs, and other thrift stores around here don't have much in the line of cabinets.

Congratulations! I'm hoping to get a 15 in a desk soon. Once you find a cabinet and make it all pretty, be sure to post a picture of it. We love those things!

I am hoping to find a vintage cabinet for my machine. I have renamed her "Grace". I checked out two goodwill stores over the weekend but no luck.

Good News:

The 15 is a great machine and good for FMQ.

I too am a new member, and recently found a singer 101 at a dump.
Need to have it fixed though, the motor or something isn't working and it needs a new cord.
Does anyone know where I could find that?
Also is there anyone in Virginia??
