Need help finding center...on Riccar ZZ

This is actually my daughters machine.
The issue is that it only sews a straight stitch from the left most position on the foot. Any attempts to change settings to the right results in a ZZ stitch... (Older photo, we have the plate now) |
Some Japanese machines are left homing machines. They're not desirable as quilting or piecing machines because of this. It's likely this machine is one of those lefty machines.

There are special SS presser feet for those left homing machines. By using those the ability to piece and quilt is much better.

Candace,
Perhaps this is one of those situations where I don't know it won't work so it does. I have two left homing machines ..... 'er one, I sold one, and have pieced quilt parts with both of them using the SS foot and a fabric guide set at 1/4". Worked fine. Didn't do SITD with either of them ... yet. The narrower feet were situated right over the left and center feed dogs and worked fine. Joe |
Thanks for clarifying that. My DD is looking to use presser feet like hemmers and such.
She just took her sisters t-shirt, removed the sleeves, tailored the sides, cut the arm holes to convert to cap sleeves. beautiful work but a little rough on the hems, so she wanted to try hemmer feet... Ahh well. Where would a good source be for left homing presser feet? (Ebay?) |
Steve,
About the only dedicated presser foot you need is the Straight Stitch foot. Any other low shank ZZ feet or attachments will work on the machine. It only parks to the left on SS. I get my feet and attachments when I buy the sets with machines, or on GW auctions, or my LSMG, or other legitimate on line stores such as Sew-Classic. I don't do eBay at this time so I have no idea what they have. Joe |
