That machine looks a lot like a NewHome. I suspect it "might" use the 20x1 needles. I see it has it's original needle, compare it to a 15x1. The 20x1 is a bit longer, but otherwise the same.

The needle thats in it doesn't seem to fit it thats why I was asking, no sure what needle size it is so will try the 20 X 1 to see if that helps her, thanks Joe!

Anyone on here have a copy of the Hew Home manual i can get so she'll have a complete manual??? Please and Thanks!

I'd bet all the dust bunnies in my wallet that's a New Home made machine. It is just too similar to my New Home AB to be otherwise. I don't have a good picture of my machine to post and I'm having trouble with Photobucket right now so I can't download any. :(

The needles, weather 20x1 or 15x1 do have a flat shank and the flat goes to the right. And from that I can see in the 3rd picture, that needle is too long to be a 15x1. The 20x1 is only about an 1/8" to 3/16" longer than a 15x1, so the needle in it might be longer than the 20x1. It just looks too long in the pic.

From what I can see in your pics the machine is threaded correctly, and the thread goes into the needle from the left to the right.

I just looked in my New Companion manual and it takes a 15x1 with the flat side to right facing the needle bar . I still say it is a Davis machine sold by Perry Mason( a dealer only) I am sending a copy ot the threading

My apologies if I came off as a know it all. I'm not. It's just that as I've been learning about Whites and Davis and New Homes and others I've come to see that no mater what the name on the machine it will have certain design traits that follow from one machine to the next.
The squarish removable face plate housing that contains the needle bar and presser foot shaft in the early White and White made machines is an example.
On the machine above the visual thing said New Home, the round needle plate vs the square one on the Davis, the big curved long plate on the back of the pillar, the shape of the top tension, are traits of New Homes.

So, I'm using what I've learned, not trying to be a smart aleck, just wanted to say that.

I just purchased a New Companion treadle. Do anyone know where to go to find more info on these machines? Where is the serial# located and is there a site that give you a mfg date? Thanks for the info I've already gleamed from y'all and for any more info you can give. I'll see if I can upload a pic.

I have a New Companion treadle made by Davis and takes a 15x1 needle. I also have the original manual. I understand that New Home also made a New Companion. The New Home usually has a round needle plate and the Davis is square. really need a picture. I will look the location of my sn tonight and let you know. I think mine is on the front slide.

ScrappyKathy, I think Joe knows how to tell the diff between new home and davis New Companion

I think Joe's right. The presser foot pressure adjustment knob looks just like my White 77 and older machine. Maybe White copied their design later on. I don't know much about, or fully appreciate long bobbin machines. The comfort factor is just not there. Muv likes them a lot and gives good advice on long bobbins.

Jon I have this machine in the parlor cabinet with manual. Mine takes a 15X1 needle and not the Davis long. A great machine and makes a beautiful stitch.

Yep, great machines.

I always thought Perry Mason was a lawyer but they must have owned the New Companion name. Ad for the New Home New companion but am sort of curious if they sold Davis and New Home at same time or if Davis lost the business by 1921. Davis went under in 1924.

I have heard he was a lawyer too. I do know he was just a dealer of sewing machines. I get a kick out of ebay when the seller says rare Mason sewing machine when it is just a badged machine. Many people think he made the sewing machines. I just love the sewing machine industry it can be sew amusing at times.
