Old Freedom Machine
 

I will be getting an old Freedom, by Domestic, machine in a cabinet that, when opening, a cable lifts the machine out! Has anyone ever seen one before? I think it is about 90+ years old. The cabinet isn't really very big and needs some TLC but the machine itself seems to be in excelent condition.

Send pictures, I am intersted in seeing the machine.

Check it over real good before you use the lift. I'm thinking Iris said the lift can damage those old cabinets.

It's not a "lift" it's a cable attached to the top that opens up just like older cabinets. The cable is attached to the sewing machine so that instead of lifting the machine out of the cabinet the cable pulls it up. I've never seen one like it and was wondering if anyone else has. I don't know how long it will be before I get it but my Aunt has it now and I'm the only one in the family that sews. LUCKY ME!!! LOL She got it from her son's ex wife that didn't want it and it was HER GRANDMOTHERS!! So They figure it is close to if not 100 yrs old. If and when I do get it I will certainly post pics. WOW that is amazing! Weren't they ingenious?

I have one that the chain is pulling out of the cabinet top and another, with a cable that is perfectly fine. Don't know if these conditions are because of the way they are made or the usage of the cabinets. Am looking to see how to save the first one, not having much luck :(

is it pulling out because the screw hole is getting loose? I've had good luck tightening up enlarged screw holes by breaking off little lengths of wooden toothpicks and sticking them in the hole. Then when you put the screw back in it is nice and tight.
