Old Tredle Mahine

My sister bought an estate after a friend died. There were 3 houses that were fully furnished. Inside one was a beautiful tredle machine that works. I asked her how much she wanted for it and she said to make her an offer. I don't know the particulars about the machine. I didn't examine it very closely but, it seemed in excellent shape for its age. Cabinet and all. The man used to clean and restore old machines. What would be a reasonable offer?

I depends on the condition of the machine and cabinet. Does it have a manual and attachments? Offer what you think you can afford. She can always say no and then you can negotiate. Can you take some photos and post here along with the serial number if possible?

Start at $75. Even if it's in rough shape it can be cleaned up and made good again. You can get them all day long for $75 and up. Since you didn't mention the make of the machine, if it's a Singer, that's a good price. If it's something else, it's still a good price, and maybe a great price if it's a rarer machine.

I actually haven't paid anything over $50, unless it was a 'unique' machine. Most of the times people just want to get rid of them and don't understand why us 'sewing machine people' love them. :)

I would stay under 100 for it.. they are everywhere... we actually have two and paid under 50 for both.. they are wonderful and sew like butter after some clean up...

Yep, I agree with all these folks. Start with a low bid and move up but stop before $100. I've bought more than my share and all were less than $50 cabinets and all!

Just a warning, once you start 'collecting' them, you'll be known as the sewing machine lady & they will start to show up on your doorstep! Every time someone has a machine they want to get rid of, or SEES a machine somewhere, they call me. Hubby says I've got enough, but I HAVE passed a few on to others who would give them a loving home, too. :)
